On the third Thursday of each month, Surfrider Foundation Miami Chapter hosts the Community & Member Meeting at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden in the Banyan Room. The public and all concerned with the protection of our oceans and beaches are welcome. We will introduce new leaders and volunteers, update the community on environmental protection initiatives, and pass out information on upcoming events and fundraisers. Brief movies may be screened. Hands Across the Sand in Partnership with Urban Paradise Guild. Join this peaceful gathering at 5th Street and Ocean Drive where hundreds will join hands in solidarity to say: NO to offshore drilling & dirty oil and YES to clean energy. Join with communities around the country AND the globe as part of Hands Across the Sand / Hands Across the Land to ask the President and local officials to reject the use of dirty fuels in ALL processes. Sunset & Moonlight Kayak Adventure from 7:00 p.m.- 9:30 p.m. Relax as you journey along the shallow waters of Key Biscayne. Watch the sun slowly set while you paddle your way through the unspoiled expanse of Bear Cut Preserve. As you make your way back gaze at the rising moon as it lights your path through the tropical waters. This is truly a mind, body, and spirit adventure. Exploring the Redlands: Hiking Tour, from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Explore the beautiful hammock that used to house Orchid Jungle at 22301 SW 162nd Ave. The trail has been restored, and although the orchids have been removed the original greenhouse and other structures are still in place. We will then go to nearby Camp Owaissa Bauer to eat lunch and hike the pineland trail. Those brave enough can also crawl through the limestone caves! Please bring plenty to drink, sun protection, bug spray, lunch, and comfortable closed toe shoes. Cameras and binoculars are recommended. Kayak on the beautiful shallow waters of Key Biscayne and explore the protected areas of Bear Cut Preserve where land meets the sea. Join us as we discover the tropical fish, spotted eagle rays, sea stars, and coastal birds that share this fragile and unique environment. This trip is a great introduction to kayaking and snorkeling and we are certain it will be the highlight of your visit to Miami. Groovin’ Garden Yoga at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Get ready to water the garden with your sweat. This is a faster-paced class than our Wednesday afternoon classes, designed for 9-5ers who want to get out of the office chair and outside onto the mat. Revitalize your muscular and cardiovascular system after work and feel refreshed and ready for whatever the night will bring. Suggested donation of $10 for members, $15 non-members.
